The magic of the gaming world

When I was younger, my parents were unhappy with the sheer amount of time I 'wasted' playing video games. But I can tell you not for a second, do I feel I should've been occupying myself with different past times. lets play Even now, certain games will transport me to another world. It offers an escape from reality.
Which can be extremely boring compared to your favourite gaming titles.

Personally, I'm very specific about the type of games I dedicate my time to playing. RPG's such as Skyrim, Oblivion, Fallout and The Witcher are usually the type which envelop me.
Even if I'm travelling or away from home, just watching a walkthrough or lets play on youtube is a lot more engulfing than mainstream television. There's just something special about living in a completely different universe. Abiding by its rules, learning its history. More importantly, having many different unique tasks within this world, completely separate from your own life.

Gaming is truly a spellbinding experience. Away from the struggles of real life. One minute you're stressed about having to work, go to school, keep up your social status. Next you're worried you didn't pack enough health potions and have to fend of 15 drowners. I wouldn't spend much time with titles such as Call Of Duty or Fifa because it just doesn't offer me the same level of involvement as traversing a strange land in some of my favourite role playing games. Meeting characters, collecting items, levelling up and developing your antagonist is entertainment like no other.

To me, gaming is like being transported inside your favourite book. You can see the places, people and situations described in the pages, right in front of you. Whats more? You can interact with them. It's a realm where imagination comes alive. I would much rather spend my time engaging in the assassination of a high level target, learning about the history of Florence and developing my very own Ezio Auditore in Assassins Creed than watch Comedy Central. It's more involving. Requiring you to actually think and make decisions. Rather than stare blankly at the TV screen. As productive a hobby as reading.

So, parents. The next time you catch your son or daughter yell because they finally defeated Alduin, please don't be angry. Too much of anything can make you sick, yes. lets play So limit their time of course if you think you need to. Just don't assume their wasting there youth away. Video games are a pastime like any other. Incredibly more fascinating than most.
